Atefeh Ghafari receives NSC Women in Spectrum Scholarship Award

Atefeh Ghafari, Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, has received a National Spectrum Consortium (NSC) Women in Spectrum Scholarship Award.

This award promotes the academic accomplishments of female students studying engineering at U.S. ABET-accredited universities who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and a commitment to advancing wireless technology. Ghafari is one of only four women nationwide to be awarded the NSC Women in Spectrum Scholarship.

Ghafari researches radio frequency spectrum, microwave systems and circuits, wideband antenna design, and advanced material characterization for microelectronic applications. Her advisor is Jonathan Chisum, associate professor of electrical engineering, and she is a member of the Microwave & Millimeter-wave Circuits and Systems lab and Notre Dame’s Wireless Institute.

The NSC Women in Spectrum Scholarship, awarded by the National Spectrum Consortium, is designed to support and encourage the next generation of women leaders in spectrum technology and innovation. Through this award, recipients gain valuable networking opportunities and resources to foster their research and professional development.

The award winners were recognized at the IEEE Military Communications Conference (MILCOM), which was held in Washington, D.C., from October 28 to November 1, 2024.
