Danielle W. Merfeld (ND ’94) vice president and chief technology officer, GE Renewable Energy, General Electric Co., has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Election to the Academy is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.
Merfeld was selected for “leadership and development of products for large wind turbines and solar photovoltaic systems,” according to the NAE.
Merfeld graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. She earned her Ph.D. in 1999 from Northwestern University.
The National Academy of Engineering has more than 2,000 peer-elected members, who are among the world’s most accomplished engineers. They provide the leadership and expertise for numerous projects focused on the relationship between engineering, technology, and quality of life.
